A huge injustice is happening in our city.
Meet Matthew. When ACT first met Matthew, his family was living on a street in West Dallas near drug houses, where violence and crime surrounded them. The sounds of gunshots were all too familiar on their street, and Matthew wasn’t even allowed to ride his bike outside because his mom feared for his safety. Many inner-city residents Dallas are just like Matthew and his family. They are facing a huge injustice. Drug houses are harboring drugs, prostitution and other crime, and are forcing law-abiding men and women to feel like prisoners in their own homes. That’s where ACT comes in.
ACT is a new model of ministry that uses the justice system to empower inner-city residents to fight crime on their street, while sharing with them the hope of the gospel.
ACT partners with top-ranked law firms to come alongside residents like Matthew and his family. And together, they hold the owners of drug houses accountable. We’ll go all the way to the courthouse with them if necessary. Our goal is to reduce crime by 50% in each of our target neighborhoods.
And it’s working. Since ACT was founded, we have shut down 88 crime-ridden properties in five target neighborhoods across Dallas. In fact, in our first target neighborhood in West Dallas, we’ve seen a 65% reduction in crime as a result of our work. That means that kids like Matthew are able to ride their bikes down the street.
